"To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail" - a guide to transport preparation of your boat or yacht
We strongly suggest that all necessary preparation is made prior to the movement of any craft.
Preparations for transportation of your boat
Avoid unnecessary damage to your boat by properly preparing it for transport. The following list is provided to assist you in readying your boat for transport.- All personal effects should be taken off your boat or yacht.
- Secure or remove any all loose items or equipment.
- Drain your boat's fuel tank and water tank, disconnect gas supplies and remove loose fuel tanks.
- Disconnect and fasten down all batteries and check integrity of securing straps.
- Ensure that cockpit drains and/or drain plugs are fully operational.
- Fasten and lock hatches, windows and cabinets. Where no locks fasten with tape.
- Detach or secure antennas, canvas, bimini tops, lifelines and stanchions.
- Stow securely below detachable windshields.
- Place securely below any electronics and valuables and tape on fixed instrument covers.
- Check the height measurements of your vessel (keel to highest non-removable part) and the max. width of your vessel.
Additional Preparation of your yacht or sailboat
- Unstep the mast and take off all stays, running rigging, antennas and spreaders.
- Dismantle and remove masthead and deck level navigation lights.
- It may well be cheaper to ship your boat if the mast can be split by a rigger to reduce its length - please advise us if this is possible.
- Do not fasten the mast to your vessel. The mast will be secured to the trailer.
- If you have your own steel cradle please ensure that it is in good condition and makes a snug fit to your hull's contour. Your boat should be securely fastened to the cradle. If you have any problems or doubts contact us for advice. We offer a custom cradle build service should you require it.
ACCESS
Where there is no clear access, the carrier cannot accept responsibility for damage caused by branches, wires or any overhanging objects. The amount quoted for transport of your vessel is based on max. height of 13' 6" loaded on the carrier's trailer. If your boat loads higher, a freight surcharge will be added to your freight amount.CARGO CONDITION REPORT
On pick up the driver will inspect just the exterior of your boat. The condition of your boat will be recorded on a CARGO CONDITION REPORT. You or your agent will be asked to sign this report. Upon delivery of your boat, a further inspection will be carried out. The findings will be written down on the CARGO CONDITION REPORT and again signed by you or your agent. Any damage noted by you or your agent upon delivery must be recorded on the same CARGO CONDITION REPORT.REMINDERS
